Dear Prospective student:
Thank you for your interest in my laboratory and the program in Ecology at the University of Georgia.
I strive to keep my lab a dynamic learning environment, which means there are graduate students and/or undergraduate students engaged in research at any given time. I think research diversity is a key to learning from each other in the lab, but there are common threads between all of the ongoing projects. I look forward to speaking with you about how your interests interface with ongoing and future lab activities.
For you to be accepted into the Ecology program at UGA, a faculty sponsor is required. This means that someone agrees to be your major adviser. This “co-commitment” usually starts with communication in the fall semester almost one year prior to enrollment, with the goal of developing a package of support for your time in graduate school. Sources of support are research assistantships on funded grants, fellowships from federal agencies, recruitment fellowships from the University of Georgia, or teaching assistantships. Applications to the graduate program are typically due December 1, and competition for recruitment fellowships awarded by UGA typically occurs in January and February of each year.
There is nothing more important to me (professionally) than helping people find and feel supported in a career path in freshwater science and ecology. Let me know if I can help answer your questions on how to pursue a graduate degree – whether with me, with someone else at UGA, or somewhere else. I would love to help!
Feel free to call me directly or send an email for further information.
Sincerely,
Amy Rosemond
